a proper shave

I recently spotted a decent deal on a shaving set from The Art of Shaving. Tonight, for the first time, I used a shaving brush and pre-shave oil, as well as an alterative shaving cream and aftershave balm. It wasn’t just the tools that were different, however. Instead of my usual foam beard and quick slashes with the razor, I took my time and didn’t force the shave. I mapped out my facial hair, brushed on a thin lather, and went to work. I’m not sure what it was, but something made me extremely happy while I did it. I recommend checking out C.O. Bigelow and The Art of Shaving to purchase the necessities. Military Wardrobe circa 1941

An excellent post on ACL featuring some great photos of vintage military uniforms. Outrageously more stylish than what we wear now. I realize BDU/ABUs may be more proficient in the field, but can’t we put the “dress” back in “dress blues?”

After a bit of a hiatus, I’ve decided to start posting again. I’m no longer in Los Angeles, as everyone who reads this knows. I am, however, back in West Virginia and happy. I’ve decided to focus more on my current style trends and day to day adventures, and less on where to get good deals. That being said, I’ll still post a link or two to keep you in the know as far as cheap threads goes.

Esquire’s 75

Esquire, one of my favorite men’s magazines, recently made a list of of the 75 albums every man should own, as well as the 75 books every man should read and 75 things every man should do. While I am interested in what the folks over at Esq. have to say, they rarely lead me astray, I am a little disheartened that the staff believes their musical tastes are universal.

My advice: Throw the lists out the window, especially the music list. Sure, it might be good to read, but decide for yourself what you like and don’t like. Everyone has a guilty pleasure when it comes to music. I for one, still have a soft spot for the teenage angst that is Brand New and Taking Back Sunday. When they randomly pop up on my shuffled playlist, the songs bring back memories and remind me of how I got where I am now. If you simply dive into a pregenerated list, you’re not getting the full experience of becoming your own person… but that’s just my $0.02.
